So myself and
hit Pittsburgh this weekend. I got my wish of meeting Stan Lee... well kinda. It was a very informal signing, meaning there was a table between fans and Stan, and there were about 4 reps there keeping the line moving and handing him stuff to sign. I will say that the staff at the show were AMAZING and really had their shit together. Very nice too. And yes I understand, that's got to be a tough gig for Stan at his age. God bless him. So I'm not really bitching that I couldnt run up and frantically shake his hand and slather him with praise and fanboy drool. I don't do shit like that. I guess what was odd for me, surreal even, is how friggin quiet everyone was. The signing line snaked around until you reach a curtain. Behind the curtain there was a little curtain room where Stan was signing. It was almost like a wake... everyone all serious... lotsa fake Wolverine chops in the crowd. It was just so quiet... everyone was looking at him like it was Disneyland and he was an animatronic puppet... "look how real it looks! Just like in the brochure!". It might have been because when I was in there, I was like 3rd last in line. It was awesome though. After he signed my worthless, beat up, coverless, stinky copy of Hulk 255 (first comic I ever bought as a kid) I simply called out "Thanks Stan!". I didn't thank him only for signing my book, but just for all that he's done in the history books. He looked up to where the sound came from and gave a cool smile, flashed those pearly whites like you'd see in all his pictures. That was pretty cool. We also got to see him walk to the pisser. He's a fast mover!
Aside from meeting Stan (or kinda gazing at him), I met a TON of fantastic artists and folks that worked their asses off getting to the show and setting up booths. Had a great time catching up with one of my buddies from college that had a sweet booth and even met fellow DA artist
! The show had a really great vibe and even though I got stiffed by Lee Weeks for a Hulk commission (he's busy, I know, but he left me hangin for a day and a half
It was the Hulk for fuck's sake! I love how he draws the Hulk!), everybody had a damn good time. Hazel even got a sweet portrait done up by Playboy's very own Doug Sneyd! Keeper! Looking forward to more of these and meeting more of the DA kats!
